How we estimate YouTube earnings

Monthly earnings = public views ร— engaged-view rate ร— RPM รท 1,000

1. Views

For channels we have tracked for at least a day we use the growth in the channel's total views. For a channel checked for the first time we use views on videos uploaded in the last 30 days, which leaves out older videos and so runs low. Stored channels are re-tracked daily.

2. Engaged-view rate, 46โ€“67%

Since August 24, 2026 YouTube counts a view from the first frame and calls the previous kind of view an "engaged view". RPM is earned per 1,000 engaged views. Across 75,000+ videos, engaged views averaged 60% of public views, ranging from 46% to 67% by category and channel size.

3. RPM (creator earnings per 1,000 engaged views)

Long-form RPM is the RPM of the channel's country (76 markets) scaled by its niche (Studio medians and P25โ€“P75 across 300 channels). The low end multiplies the low values together and the high end the high ones. Shorts use a provisional $0.05โ€“0.30 for now.

4. Limits

  • We use the country the channel lists, not where its viewers are: public data does not show viewer countries.
  • Niches YouTube has no category for, such as finance, are not detected.
  • Memberships, Super Chat, sponsorships and YouTube Premium revenue are not included.
  • Every number is an estimate. It is not YouTube data and is not approved or published by YouTube or Google.
